Recently, the Government of India introduced a new Central Sector Scheme called Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) to increase the revenues of Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs). The program was released to the public in February of 2019. Under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, the Department of Agriculture, Co-operation, and Farmers' Welfare (DAC&FW) oversees this project. It is also carried out by the Departments of Agriculture of each state and union territory. The Scheme provides a one-time direct payment of Rs. 6,000 per year to qualified landholding families, which will be split into three equal amounts of Rs. 2000 each and deposited into their respective bank accounts every four months.
In order to ensure that PM-KISAN is available to all eligible recipients, the government is currently taking a variety of steps. People can use public interfaces to self-register, check the status of their payments, and correct their names as they appear on their Aadhaar cards as meeting these criteria is mandatory for the scheme. As part of an effort to expand the scope of the program, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has developed the PM-KISAN mobile app under the direction of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India.
